Tony Gwynn Memorial

Lake Poway, California

Client: City of Poway

Commissioned by the City of Poway, this landmark public art project honors baseball legend and beloved community member Tony Gwynn. Rebecca Basford led the full project lifecycle — from developing the RFQ and RFP, facilitating the juried artist selection process, and overseeing the commission of sculptor Seth Vandable of Cedar Hill, Texas. The result is an 11-foot tall bronze sculpture unveiled May 9, 2017, on what would have been Tony's 57th birthday.

As part of a comprehensive healthcare art program, Artful Living oversaw the selection and installation of artwork that complements the facility's commitment to patient-centered care. The collection was chosen to introduce warmth, visual interest, and moments of reflection, creating an environment that supports healing while enhancing the overall experience for patients, families, staff, and visitors.

Client: Luxury Hotel Group

A full-service art program developed for a hospitality group operating properties across two states. The images shown represent work from multiple projects within the same portfolio — spanning lobby installations, guestroom art, restaurant environments, spa environments, and outdoor sculpture. Artful Living developed a brand-aligned art strategy, sourced local and regional artists, managed custom commissions, and coordinated all procurement and installation logistics across both Arizona and California locations.

Client: A-1 Self Storage

For the A-1 Self Storage development in Pacific Beach, Artful Living managed the commissioning and implementation of a large-scale site-specific public art installation. Services included city ordinance review and liaison compliance, concept development, artist selection, coordination with the project team, fabrication oversight, and installation management. The completed artwork transformed the building into a distinctive visual landmark while contributing to the character and identity of the surrounding community.
